French company wins contract to takeover duty-free shops at Cameroonian airports
Lagardère Travel Retail Western Africa, a subsidiary of the French Lagardère Group, has secured a contract to design and operate duty-free shops at Douala and Yaoundé International Airports.
The concession agreement, signed on September 11, 2024, by Thomas Owona Assoumou, Director General of Aéroports du Cameroun (ADC), and Sountou Bousso, CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail Western Africa, spans a period of 10 years.
This partnership aims to enhance the shopping experience for travelers by expanding the product range offered by Lagardère and modernizing airport facilities. This includes renovating commercial spaces to create a contemporary shopping environment. According to Sountou Bousso, "This partnership allows us to apply our expertise to Cameroonian airports by rethinking commercial spaces and passenger experiences." The goal is to transform Cameroonian airports into dynamic hubs where every traveler feels welcomed.
Lagardère Travel Retail operates in over 40 countries and 250 airports, making it a leader in airport retail. Thomas Owona Assoumou notes, "This partnership is part of our broader modernization efforts for the terminals, which began in 2022 to make Cameroon more attractive to tourists."
With Lagardère's involvement, the airports will introduce new international and local brands, diversifying their commercial offerings. The ADC is also expected to see increased revenue from concessions. Thomas Owona Assoumou adds that "Lagardère will contribute 20% of local product sales, along with a share of the net profits."
