Canadian visa Lottery hoax gets Cameroonians on their toes to flee their country

November last year, information circulated on social media that the Canadian government had launched a Visa Lottery for Cameroonians. It immediately became viral. Many Cameroonians saw this as a perfect opportunity at the right time. This strange information some say, was too good to be true.

“I was very happy when I heard about this lottery program” says Pa Shey, a 50 year old father of 6. “I have already started preparing photos for my children so that I will not be in a rush when the time comes.” he adds.
However, recent investigations from the Canadian High Commission in Yaounde have revealed that the said Visa Lottery Programme which was slated to begin on 1st April 2017 was a mere hoax.
“Canadian Lottery doesn’t exist” says Yunde, an officer at the High Commission of Canada in Cameroon. “However interested individuals can refer to for an eventual immigration to Canada” she adds.
Millions of Cameroonians who were seriously considering leaving their fatherland Cameroon for Canada have been seriously hit by this revelation.
