Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Sop Village, Ndu Subdivision, Cameroon** – Apostle Rogers Nforgwei, the General President of the Wimbum Cultural and Development Association (WICUDA), has strongly denounced the escalating violence in Sop village, located in the Ndu subdivision of Cameroon’s Donga Mantung Division.

This follows a distressing attack by armed men on Wednesday morning, which resulted in the death of one resident.

Sop Village, once known for its tranquility, has been mired in a cycle of violence and destruction. Recent assaults by armed herdsmen have intensified fears and suffering among the local population. The attackers have reportedly burned down homes and claimed innocent lives, leading to widespread terror and a desperate plea for intervention.

A source from Sop village reported that the assailants were armed with knives, machetes, and guns. The situation escalated dramatically on July 30, 2024, when the village was overrun, resulting in significant casualties and property damage. Eyewitnesses described a particularly harrowing incident where a resident managed to escape with his wife, but his sick relatives were shot and burned alive.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though some villagers suggest it could be either a retaliatory strike or an offensive maneuver. Allegations of protection for the attackers by local administrators have further inflamed tensions. The ongoing strife between the Mbororos and local communities, exacerbated by the anglophone crisis, has led to a series of violent confrontations and retaliations in recent years.

In response to the worsening situation, Apostle Nforgwei has issued a forceful statement condemning the violence and calling for urgent action. “The Fulanis are intentional and determined in their unchallenged aggression against us,” Nforgwei asserted. He underscored the necessity for all stakeholders—including government officials, law enforcement, traditional rulers, and community leaders—to address the unchecked violence seriously.

Nforgwei also revealed that he had previously initiated a peace-seeking plan, which was still under discussion. However, the latest attack has accelerated the need to expand and intensify these efforts. “I have reached out to various stakeholders to broaden and expedite the plan,” he stated. Further details of these efforts will be disclosed in due course.

The General President’s appeal for calm underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution amidst the mounting tension. “While it is difficult to endure, I urge our community to remain composed as we explore viable solutions,” he said.

As the situation continues to develop, the Wimbum Cultural and Development Association remains committed to fostering dialogue and finding a sustainable resolution to the ongoing conflict.
