Archbishop Nkea Visits Bamenda Market Ravaged by Fire
Bamenda, Cameroon - In the wake of a devastating fire that ripped through the Bamenda Main Market on February 22nd, 2024, His Grace Andrew Nkea, Archbishop of the Bamenda Archdiocese, offered solace and prayers to affected traders during a visit today.
The fire, considered one of the worst in the history of Cameroon's North-West Region, threatened to reduce hundreds of shops to ashes, with over 20 already completely destroyed.
Archbishop Nkea met with market leaders and representatives of the traders' union, offering words of comfort and spiritual guidance to those whose livelihoods were impacted by the blaze.
"This is a time of great hardship," the Archbishop said in a statement released after his visit. "My prayers are with the families and individuals who have lost so much. May God grant them strength and hope during this difficult time."
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Local authorities are working to assess the damage and determine the best course of action to support the affected market community.
