Kribi II: Man Caught Allegedly Abusing Child
Residents of Bebwambe, in the Kribi II Subdivision, are pressing for rapid legal action after a disturbing incident circulated on social media. In the video, recorded by shocked youths, an elderly man in a red shirt—identified locally as Mangache—is confronted after being allegedly found abusing a six-year-old girl in the bush. The child’s face is obscured in the footage.
A whistleblower known as Shance Lion described the scene as “unspeakable,” urging authorities to open a rigorous investigation. Community members who discovered the act say they intervened immediately and called on local leaders to ensure the case does not vanish into silence.
Residents interviewed after the incident raised two urgent concerns. First, the survivor’s protection: they want health personnel to provide medical care, trauma support, and safe shelter if needed. Second, the handling of evidence: witnesses insist that the video, clothing, and any medical findings be preserved and transferred promptly to investigators to avoid tampering or loss.
Legal advocates point to existing provisions in Cameroonian law that criminalize sexual violence against minors. They argue that the case should proceed quickly from police report to medical certification and referral to the prosecutor. Community leaders in Bebwambe fear that delays could embolden intimidation or attempts at out-of-court settlements—outcomes they reject in a case involving a child.
The video has also triggered a conversation about local safeguarding. Parents and teachers in the area told Cameroon Concord they want practical measures: child-safe reporting channels; a designated social worker for Kribi II; and periodic community briefings so families know how to report abuse without stigma. “We must end the silence that protects offenders,” one elder said.
While emotions remain high, villagers caution against vigilante responses. They call for a lawful process: the suspect should be placed at the disposal of competent authorities, questioned with due process, and tried in court. At the same time, they want transparent communication so the public knows the case has not been buried.
Whistleblower accounts—originally shared in French—frame Bebwambe as a community shocked by a “barbaric” act and determined to reject any culture of impunity. Translated into English, the core message is clear: this case must be thoroughly investigated; the child must be protected; and any proven offender must face the full weight of the law.
As the clip continues to circulate online, community leaders urge responsible sharing that avoids revealing the child’s identity. They also appeal for professionals—health workers, counselors, and legal aid—to assist the family. For Bebwambe, the priority is immediate care for the survivor and a credible path to justice.
