Tomato Truck Set Ablaze by Armed Men in Bamenda Amid Rising Violence
A truck transporting tomatoes from the West Region to Bamenda was set ablaze this morning by unidentified armed individuals at Travellers Junction, Bamenda 2 subdivision.
The attack occurred around 11:20 AM, according to local sources. Witnesses report that the truck, en route to deliver its cargo of tomatoes, was stopped by a group of armed men who accused the driver of using a fraudulent license plate.
The assailants then set the vehicle on fire, causing significant destruction and disrupting traffic in the area.
Authorities have not yet identified the perpetrators or fully determined their motivations. This incident has raised concerns among local residents and traders who rely on the transport of goods along this route.
This violent act comes amid a rise in attacks against civilians and their property in Bamenda, in the midst of an ongoing armed conflict.
In recent weeks, separatist fighters have targeted taxi drivers and other vehicle owners, accusing them of defying their orders.
This escalation of violence endangers civilian safety and disrupts local commerce, further exacerbating existing tensions in the region. Authorities are being urged to strengthen security measures to protect the population and their property.
