Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

The fire that broke out at the crossroads known as Carrefour Anatole around midnight on Thursday to Friday caused significant material damage.

The preliminary assessment reports about thirty shops ravaged by flames. The Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, accompanied by his staff, visited the scene of the disaster this morning to assess the damage and provide solace to the victims. The close quarters posed a challenge to the firefighters who, after several hours of battle, managed to extinguish the flames. The fire is believed to have been caused by a fan left operational in one of the shops.

At the heart of this tragedy, within a corridor housing over 20 shops, numerous merchants witnessed the devastation wrought by the flames, resulting in the loss of all their merchandise.

It is worth noting that the fire started around 8 p.m., and despite the firefighters' intervention two hours later, the damage remained considerable.

The fire incident, which started at around 10 p.m. yesterday at the central market of Douala, left a significant impact. The timely response from the 201st Fire Company of Douala was commendable. Despite their valor and the challenges posed by narrow access routes and agitation among the local populace, they managed to control the fire after 6 hours of relentless struggle. The material damages are substantial, prompting questions about the fate of the affected traders and the measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
