Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

DOUALA, March 14 (Cameroon Concord) – A routine ride in Bonapriso, Douala, turned into a dramatic heist when a Yango driver vanished with a client’s bag containing 30 million FCFA ($50,000), sparking a police investigation.

According to sources, the victim, a man who had been using Pomkam Ngainang Leonel as his regular Yango driver for over a year, made a brief stop at a gas station to buy croissants, leaving his bag full of cash in the car.

When he returned, the driver was gone—accelerating at full speed and vanishing into the city’s labyrinth of streets.

Trust Turns into Betrayal

The victim and Pomkam reportedly had a friendly relationship, having built trust over their 12-month association. That trust proved costly.

Despite filing a police complaint, there is no trace of either the runaway driver or the missing client, raising speculation about whether the victim himself has gone into hiding out of embarrassment or due to undisclosed factors.

A City of “Schemes”

This incident has reignited discussions about security concerns with ride-hailing services in Cameroon, where drivers are often unverified, and cash transactions remain common.

As investigations continue, many in Douala joke about the “Damba na Sense” philosophy—the local slang for streetwise survival tactics, implying that trusting anyone, even your trusted driver, can be a costly mistake in a city known for elaborate schemes.
