Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

By Cameroon Concord Newsroom | March 27, 2025 – Düsseldorf, Germany

In a dramatic development in the investigation into the brazen assassination of a Cameroonian national in Düsseldorf, German authorities have confirmed the arrest of a prime suspect in the case that has rattled diaspora communities across Europe.

The 23-year-old male suspect was picked up during a police raid in the town of Wetzlar, located in the Hesse region of central Germany. The arrest reportedly stemmed from a separate firearms-related case. However, investigators quickly linked the individual to the cold-blooded execution that occurred on March 13 near Düsseldorf’s main train station.

According to sources at the Düsseldorf Public Prosecutor’s Office, the young suspect resisted arrest, leading to minor injuries. Two other individuals—a 47-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man—were also taken into custody during the raid, though their connection to the Uber killing remains under investigation.

The case centers around the murder of Alain Karol Tsapi, a 49-year-old Cameroonian national better known in diaspora circles by his alias “Versace.” Tsapi was shot multiple times at point-blank range while seated in the back of a ride-hailing Uber car that had stopped at a red light near Karlstraße. The shooter and his accomplices vanished into the night.

Initial findings suggested a financial dispute, possibly related to the victim’s alleged involvement in advance-fee scams—commonly referred to in West Africa as “Feymania 419.” The Düsseldorf prosecutor’s office has confirmed that the deceased was known to police for multiple fraud-related investigations and was residing illegally in Germany at the time of his death. A forged French passport was found in his possession.

Tsapi had been a flamboyant and controversial figure, often flaunting designer fashion and luxury drinks on social media while attending elite diaspora parties across Europe. A viral image captured him lounging on a golden chair, dressed in a Versace-style shirt, flanked by bottles of Royal Salute 21-year-old whisky.

Diaspora Cameroonians, already outraged by perceived injustices against African migrants, remain deeply divided over Tsapi’s legacy. While some have called his death an inevitable consequence of risky dealings, others point to systemic issues within German immigration and law enforcement structures.

The Uber driver, who was not harmed in the attack, remains a key witness in the investigation. Meanwhile, the suspect has been transferred to Düsseldorf, where he has appeared before a magistrate and remains in detention.

Authorities say further details will be made public on Thursday.
