Iran Mourns as President Ebrahim Raeisi Confirmed Dead in Helicopter Crash
Tehran, Iran (AP) - Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Revolution, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the Iranian nation following the martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raeisi and his companions in a tragic helicopter crash.
In a solemn message delivered on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei announced five days of national mourning in honor of the fallen leaders. He expressed profound sorrow over the loss of the "popular, competent, and hardworking" President Raeisi, who perished while on a mission to serve the Iranian people.
**A Noble and Tireless Leader**
"The bitter news of the martyrdom of dear Raeisi and his team has brought great sorrow," Ayatollah Khamenei said. He lauded President Raeisi's tireless dedication and relentless efforts to serve the people, the nation, and Islam, noting that Raeisi did not allow fatigue to hinder his commitment. "The Iranian nation lost a sincere and valuable servant in this tragic incident," he added.
**Service Above All**
Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted President Raeisi's unwavering focus on the satisfaction of the Iranian people, which he regarded as equivalent to God's satisfaction. Despite facing ingratitude and criticism from ill-wishers, Raeisi remained steadfast in his efforts to achieve progress and improve the nation's condition.
**A National Loss**
The Leader also mourned the loss of other prominent figures in the crash, including the Friday Prayers leader of Tabriz, Seyyed Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, East Azarbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, and the helicopter crew.
**Transition and Future Steps**
In accordance with Article 131 of the Constitution, Vice President Mohammad Mokhber will assume the responsibilities of managing the executive branch. Ayatollah Khamenei urged Mokhber to cooperate with the heads of the other two branches of government to arrange the election of a new president within a maximum of 50 days.
**Details of the Tragedy**
The tragic incident occurred in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan on Sunday, as the helicopter carrying President Raeisi and his delegation crashed due to harsh weather conditions. The bodies were recovered after an extensive night-long search operation.
The Iranian nation mourns this profound loss, with Ayatollah Khamenei's words resonating deeply as the country embarks on a period of reflection and mourning for its fallen leaders.
