Married with four children, he is poised to lead the largest English-speaking church in Cameroon as it continues its mission of promoting peace, reconciliation, and community development.
Abia succeeds the outgoing Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba, marking the first change in leadership in the church in a decade. His journey within the church has been one of consistent dedication, having served in multiple roles, including as Synod Clerk under the controversial Rev. Fonki Samuel.
A Journey of Service and Leadership
Born in Tombel, in the Kupe-Muanenguba Division of the South West Region, Rt. Rev. Abia’s roots lie in Njindom, Meta, Momo Division, in the North West Region. His parents, Pa Joseph Mejang Miki (late) and Ma Elisabeth Miyeh Miki, had lived in Tombel for over fifty years.
Abia's journey in the church began in 2003 when he became a parish pastor. His leadership skills quickly became evident, leading to his appointment as Presbyterial Secretary for the Mamfe town congregation. After earning his Master's in Systematic Theology from the Presbyterian Theological Seminary (PTS) in Kumba in 2008, he took on the role of Presbyterial Secretary for Fako South. His years of service culminated in his election as Synod Clerk in 2019, a position that laid the foundation for his appointment as Moderator.
A New Era of Leadership
As the new Moderator, Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia will also serve as the Chancellor of the Cameroon Christian University Institute (CCUI). His leadership will focus on furthering the church's educational, health, and community development efforts across Cameroon. The PCC, with over 2 million members and 27 presbyteries, is a central institution in the country, deeply involved in the provision of healthcare, education, and peacebuilding.
Rev. Abia’s appointment is particularly significant as it coincides with a period of ongoing challenges in Cameroon, particularly the Anglophone crisis. As Synod Clerk, Abia played a pivotal role in the church's efforts to promote peace and reconciliation in the troubled regions of the country. His leadership is expected to further strengthen the church's initiatives in these areas, working closely with government officials, international partners, and other religious leaders.
Looking Ahead
Rev. Miki Hans Abia’s appointment as Moderator of the PCC is a testament to his dedication to the church’s mission and his strong foundation in its work. Under his leadership, the church is expected to continue its commitment to peace, education, and healthcare across Cameroon, while also building on its existing role as a powerful voice for reconciliation in the country.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Rt. Rev. Abia and wish him success in his new role. His leadership promises to bring positive change to the lives of many in Cameroon, and we look forward to witnessing the impact he will have in the years ahead.
