Anglophone Crisis Deepens as Ambazonian rebels Strike Cameroonian Forces in Meluf
A violent ambush by Ambazonian separatists struck a military outpost in Meluf, Bui Division, North West Region, on Tuesday, leading to significant casualties. The attack, described as a surprise assault, resulted in the death of at least one confirmed gendarme, identified as Mouassom Ulrich, with reports indicating that as many as four soldiers may have been killed.

A Coordinated Attack
Eyewitnesses and local sources report that the armed separatist fighters encircled the military post, catching security forces off guard. The raid led to intense gunfire, leaving behind destruction and further fueling fears of escalating violence in the Anglophone regions.
This latest assault adds to the grim toll of Cameroon’s prolonged Anglophone conflict, which has seen continued confrontations between government forces and separatist groups fighting for an independent Ambazonia state.
Rising Death Toll in the Conflict
Since the beginning of the Anglophone crisis, an estimated 1,533 soldiers have lost their lives in the fighting, highlighting the persistent instability in the region.
As tensions escalate, security remains a major concern, with no clear end in sight to the protracted war that has displaced thousands and devastated communities.
The Cameroonian government has yet to issue an official statement on the Meluf attack, but military operations in the North West and South West regions are expected to intensify in response.
