Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

[YAOUNDE, Oct 23 – A confidential intelligence report from Cameroon’s General Directorate for External Research (DGRE) to the Presidency warns that the army is facing a manpower shortfall and would be unable to control nationwide demonstrations if they were to occur simultaneously, Cameroon Concord has learned.

The document, described by security insiders as a “restricted briefing note,” outlines the growing difficulty in maintaining order as demonstrations spread across multiple regions following the disputed October 12 presidential election.

According to the report, a large portion of Cameroon’s armed forces remains committed to conflict zones in the North West, South West, and Far North, leaving few active units available for civilian crowd-control operations.

The memo reportedly states that troops deployed recently to the Grand North, where daily demonstrations have taken place in Garoua, Maroua, Ngaoundéré, Guider, and Kaélé, consist largely of CAT-2 trainees who had just completed their training cycle.

Analysts say the revelation exposes the strain on Cameroon’s defense infrastructure as the post-election crisis deepens.
A Yaoundé-based military observer told Cameroon Concord that “the system was not built for simultaneous uprisings across all regions,” adding that “any prolonged unrest would stretch the command structure beyond capacity.”

The DGRE’s warning, if confirmed, suggests internal recognition that current deployments may not sustain a prolonged campaign of suppression without risking fatigue or morale issues within the ranks.

As of Thursday afternoon, no official statement has been released by the Ministry of Defense or the Presidency regarding the reported leak.

Cameroon Concord’s whistleblower unit continues verifying the authenticity and timeline of the DGRE memo, which sources say was dispatched earlier this week under urgent classification.
