Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

DOUALA, March 6, 2025 – Cameroonian opposition lawmaker Jean Michel Nintcheu has strongly condemned Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, labeling him the "Minister of National Provocation" and accusing him of manipulating electoral processes ahead of the October presidential elections.

Nintcheu Denounces Atanga Nji’s Actions

  • In a scathing statement on March 6, Nintcheu accused the government of orchestrating an "insurrection of the state" to justify future electoral fraud.
  • He criticized Atanga Nji’s frequent political provocations, calling his actions a blatant insult to Cameroon’s institutions.
  • The minister’s unchecked power, Nintcheu claims, signals that he is beyond the control of both Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute and President Paul Biya.
  • "Atanga Nji has become a rogue minister acting without restraint, unless, of course, the regime is using him as a pitbull for its sinister political agenda," Nintcheu stated.

Accusations of Electoral Sabotage

  • Nintcheu accused the government of deliberately sabotaging the electoral process by:
    • Refusing to publish the national electoral list, violating the electoral code.
    • Interfering with ELECAM, the electoral body, through its Director General, Erick Essousse, to manipulate voter registration.
    • Seeking to exclude political opponents through dubious administrative maneuvers.
  • He also called out the state-owned media Cameroon Tribune and CRTV for spreading propaganda to create the illusion of democratic competition.

Mounting Public Anger Against Biya’s Regime

  • The 43-year rule of President Biya, according to Nintcheu, has left Cameroon in ruins.
  • He warned that public anger is reaching a boiling point, and the government is seeking to create chaos to distract from its inevitable electoral defeat.
  • "Biya’s regime is on borrowed time," Nintcheu declared.

Paul Atanga Nji Under Fire for Multiple Scandals

  • The opposition leader accused Atanga Nji of fueling the Anglophone conflict by worsening tensions in the North West and South West regions.
  • He further linked the minister to financial scandals, including:
    • The mismanagement of funds for COVID-19 relief efforts.
    • The collapse of the national postal service, CAMPOST.
    • Alleged protection of drug trafficking networks that have harmed Cameroon’s youth.

"Enough is Enough": Nintcheu Vows Political Resistance

  • "We will no longer tolerate Atanga Nji’s provocations," Nintcheu warned, stating that he will match the minister’s rhetoric with an equally fierce response.
  • The opposition leader accused the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) of openly rebelling against the constitution, calling for urgent electoral reforms.
  • "The CPDM’s decades of deception, tribalism, and electoral fraud are coming to an end. They have one option left: to exit power through the ballot box," he said.

Call for International Scrutiny

  • Nintcheu urged diplomatic missions and the international community to closely monitor Cameroon’s electoral process.
  • He called on ELECAM to resist pressure from Atanga Nji and operate independently, as mandated by the electoral code.

Biya Regime Under Growing Pressure

With elections approaching in October 2025, opposition forces are ramping up efforts to expose electoral fraud and push for democratic reforms.
As tensions mount, all eyes are on how the Biya administration will respond to increasing political resistance.
