The Government of Cameroon has officially broken its silence regarding the kidnapping of the Sub-Prefect of Idabato, Mr. Ewane Roland, in the South-West Region. In a press release issued today, the government expressed its outrage and sympathy for the affected families and the people of Idabato.

On the night of September 30 to October 1, 2024, around 2:00 AM, Mr. Ewane Roland, the Sub-Prefect of Idabato, and his collaborator, municipal agent Etongo Ismael, were abducted from their homes in the Bakassi Peninsula, Ndian Department, South-West Region. The perpetrators, identified as armed pirate terrorists from a neighboring country, are said to have carried out the act with extreme force and violence.

In response to this horrific event, the Government of the Republic has issued a strong condemnation, describing the act as "odious, cowardly, and despicable." The statement emphasizes that the actions of these lawless individuals are not only an assault on state representatives but are also marked by extreme cruelty. The government condemned the inhumane and degrading treatment inflicted upon the Sub-Prefect, highlighting that such actions can never be justified.

In the statement, the Government expressed its solidarity with the families of the victims, offering condolences and support. The government also conveyed the heartfelt sympathy and comfort of President Paul Biya to the bereaved families and the people of Idabato.

Furthermore, the Government reassured the public that every effort is being made to ensure the safety and well-being of Mr. Ewane Roland and his collaborator, and that all necessary measures are being taken to secure a positive resolution to this disturbing situation.

The press release concluded with a commitment from the Government to continue working tirelessly towards the safe release of the hostages and the restoration of peace and security in the region.
