Senatorial Election: Constitutional Council Proclaims Results Thursday March 23

The Constitutional Council of Cameroon will proclaim the results of the March 12 election of senators this Thursday March 23 at the Yaoundé Conference Centre.

 

The president of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana made this information public is a release he signed Tuesday March 21, 2023.

This proclamation of results comes after the different procedures of convening of the electoral college, submitting and scrutiny of files of candidates to run for the election, publication of lists of accepted candidates, campaigns, voting and deliberations on post electoral litigations.

The Electoral Code on the Proclamation of the Senatorial Results

Section 239 of the Electoral Code states that the Constitutional Council shall ensure the regularity of the election of senators.

It is clearly spelled out in a section 240 that the constitutional council shall proclaim the results of the election of senators within 15 (fifteen) days following the close of the poll.

The report on the conduct of elections and proclamation of results shall be prepared by the Constitutional Council in four copies. It shall file the original and send the 3 (three) other copies to the Senate, the Ministry in charge of local and regional authorities and the Electoral Board, respectively.

The results of the election shall be published according to the procedure of urgency and inserted in the Official Gazette in English and French.
