This all-important five-letter word, PEACE, has in recent times been used and abused!
What is peace?
The Oxford Advanced Learners' Dictionary defines PEACE as:
"a situation or a period of time in which there is no war or violence in a country or an area; the state of being calm or quiet."
This means that peace is the absence of war. What then is war?
The aforesaid Dictionary defines WAR as:
"Organized, large-scale, armed conflict between countries or between national, ethnic, or other sizeable groups, usually involving the engagement of military forces."
What brings war? ~ INJUSTICE!!!

What is injustice? It is the absence of justice. It is unfairness, etc.
This brings to play the twin-concept of JUSTICE and PEACE, amplified by the famous adage: No Justice, No Peace!
Broadly speaking, there are two meanings of the word PEACE. The first is roughly synonymous with 'peacefulness' or 'peace and quiet'.The other is the absence of war.
These two concepts are not incompatible, but they are distinct. I am primarily concerned with peace as the absence of war because, I presume, the vast majority of people look as peace as such.
Here, I am minded to cite Allen Boesak's poem on PEACE as follows:
"If there is no Justice,
There will be no Peace.
Today, the world has motion, but no direction.
Passion, but no compassion.
Production, but no equitable distribution.
Religion, but no faith.
Laws, but no justice.
Goods, but no God.
Each new economic advance,
Gives birth to a new moral pain.
Each new technological discovery,
To new fears from the seas as much as from the skies."
There is no doubt that Peace is about forgiveness. A very important strand of Christian thinking urges us to forgive our enemies. The thought naturally arises as to whether this is the key to peace. If, for example, the Anglophones were to forgive the Francophone Leaders for the injustices meted on them for 56 years, would the present conflict come to an end?
Except in an ideal world, forgiveness is almost impossible without acknowledgement of the harm done by the oppressor, and a commitment not to continue with the harming.
Lasting peace requires much open-hearted honesty which brings inner peace to mankind.
You cannot seek peace while at the same time telling lies.
You cannot seek peace while at the same time calling people terrorists, dogs, rats, etc.
You cannot seek peace while at the same time shooting and killing armless civilians.
A certain spiritual orientation would drastically reduce the incidence of conflict. The pursuit of power, beyond a certain point, is destructive and illusory. It rests on an assumption that the achievement of ever more power is both possible and beneficial for the person or collective concern of a particular clan or a chosen few.
Many people nowadays, especially politicians, preach peace and at the same time, practice injustice! This is a paradox.
Isaiah Chapter 59 Verse 8 says:
"The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whoever goeth therein shall not know peace."
If we put this in the context of the present Cameroon Crisis (not Anglophone Crisis), one can safely say that if those who govern Cameroon truly seek peace, they must be just and humane in the way they treat other Cameroonians as well as other people, especially their neighbours. I will never be party to the distortion of a people's history.
Southern Cameroons gained INDEPENDENCE on the 01.10.1961 by joining La République Du Cameroun. Therefore, we must celebrate our Independence Day ~ and I'm celebrating!
We should celebrate because even dogs and rats do celebrate. Let the elephants, cows, horses, donkeys, lions and even crickets join us in the celebration.
We are celebrating amidst heavy military presence in our towns and villages. The military are breaking into our homes, molesting us, arresting us, killing us, but we are celebrating after all.
In this celebration, the government of Cameroon misses out on one very important thing.
No matter the number of Anglophones who are molested, arrested or killed, there is one thing which has gathered momentum: a crushing majority of Anglophones in their hearts, no longer have a feeling of belonging to Cameroon.
As concerns any dialogue, I make bold to say that as of now, there is only ONE SOLUTION:
Let the United Nations Organization (UN) organize another REFERANDUM for the citizens of Southern Cameroons with 2 questions:
1. Do you want to continue with your independence in the Republic of Cameroon
2. Do you want to continue enjoying your independence in Southern Cameroons Ambazonia as a distinct and sovereign State?
I can bet with my life that even Paul Atanga Nji will vote to go the Ambazonia way.
Instead of appeasing or even cajoling Anglophones to rekindle the feeling of belonging to the much-trumpeted "one and indivisible Cameroon", the government deploys her military arsenal against armless Anglophones who long conquered fear. It's a pity! You cannot preach peace while practising injustice. It's a paradox.
Let me remind us all (especially those governing) that peace doesn't come from the barrel of the gun but from the love that flows from our hearts as a result of the justice we practice.
If there is peace, it will be for all of us and if there is war, it will be for all of us, for, as St. Pius X says:
"The desire of peace rises from men's hearts;
There is no one who does not ardently long for it.
But it is absurd to seek peace while rejecting God.
For where God is left out, Justice is left out.
And where Justice is lacking, there can be no hope of Peace.
Peace is the work of Justice."
Happy Independence Day Celebration to the People of Southern Cameroons.
