Cameroon Volleyball Federation Confronts Sexual Abuse Allegations
*Yaoundé, Cameroon — July 22, 2024* — Cameroonian Volleyball Federation (Fecavolley) has formally lodged a complaint with the relevant authorities, seeking a thorough investigation into serious allegations of sexual abuse within the sport.

The federation's announcement comes in the wake of an explosive open letter from a professional player, which has thrust the issue into the spotlight.
The allegations, which have shocked the volleyball community, claim that several young athletes—five in total, aged between 16 and 18—were subjected to sexual abuse by team officials. The letter asserts that these abuses led to pregnancies among the minors. This alarming situation has prompted Fecavolley to take decisive action to uncover the truth and address the concerns raised.
In its statement, the federation emphasized its commitment to addressing the issue with utmost seriousness. Fecavolley has urged all witnesses and alleged victims to come forward, promising that any complaints will be handled confidentially. The federation has also made provisions for complaints to be submitted anonymously to its headquarters in the Dragage neighborhood of Yaoundé.
The federation's response underscores its determination to tackle the crisis head-on, while also warning against the spread of unfounded allegations on social media. Fecavolley has made it clear that it will not succumb to external pressures or financial demands aimed at tarnishing its reputation or that of its leaders.
This scandal mirrors a similar controversy that erupted in 2020 involving the Cameroonian Karate Federation (Fecakarate). In that case, athletes accused officials and coaches of sexual harassment and attempted rape. The ensuing investigation, conducted by the Circle of Black Belts of Central Cameroon, revealed troubling practices within the federation, leading to severe sanctions against several officials, including a lifetime ban for then-president Emmanuel Wakam from the African Karate Federation (UFAK).
As the volleyball scandal unfolds, it casts a spotlight on broader issues of abuse and misconduct in Cameroonian sports, raising critical questions about the safety and governance of athletic institutions in the country. The outcome of the ongoing investigation will be closely watched by both national and international observers as Fecavolley seeks to restore trust and integrity within the sport.
