Cameroon's Indomitable Lions Touch Down in Garoua for AFCON Qualifier Against Namibia

The delegation landed ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Namibia's Brave Warriors, scheduled for Saturday, September 7.

Head coach Marc Brys and his squad were welcomed by the Governor of the North Region, who extended a warm reception on behalf of the local population. "We are thrilled to host the national team and are confident that the people of Garoua will provide an enthusiastic atmosphere," the governor stated.

The team traveled on the same flight as officials from the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), including Secretary-General Benjamin Banlock. The flight also carried Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials, Malian match referees, the match commissioner from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cameroonian Paule Édouard Mengue, responsible for broadcast coordination.

Prime Minister Confirms Match Venue in Garoua

On Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute issued a communiqué resolving previous disputes over the match venue. The government acknowledged CAF's decision to hold the match at Garoua's Roumdé Adjia Stadium.

"The Prime Minister has taken note of CAF's decision to play the match against Namibia at Roumdé Adjia Stadium and looks forward to the warm welcome that the inhabitants of Garoua will undoubtedly extend to all stakeholders," the statement read.

The communiqué also expressed the government's willingness to address any practical issues raised and encouraged all parties—including the Ministry of Sports, FECAFOOT, and local authorities—to work collaboratively for the success of the upcoming matches.

Public Excitement Builds in Garoua

Anticipation is reaching a fever pitch in Garoua as residents prepare to host the national team. Local broadcaster CRTV is making arrangements to ensure comprehensive coverage of the match. "The excitement is palpable; everyone is eager to support the Indomitable Lions," said a local shopkeeper.

Mixed Reactions to Minister's Presence

The presence of Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi alongside the team has sparked reactions on social media. Some users questioned his role in the delegation, suggesting that his involvement could be seen as overstepping.

"Is he the president of FECAFOOT? He should avoid any actions that could be perceived as interference," commented one user on Facebook.

Meanwhile, the Under-20 Lions, initially called up as reinforcements, have returned to Mbankomo to continue preparations for the upcoming UNIFFAC tournament.
