World cup kickoff: Role of Cameroon in Russia

The 21st edition of the world cup begins on Thursday 14 June in Russia, but Cameroon’s indomitable lions are absent, as they failed to qualify.

Now, the question is does Roger Milla’s fatherland have any role to play on Putin’s ground?

Certainly, Cameroon has a role to play during this great event; that of spectators and fans of the other participating nations, especially those from Africa.

Apart from being spectators, there is another role, an even more important one, which Biya’s country has to play in this world cup and that is the role of the media.

Several media organs in Cameroon, ranging from the public to the private sector, already have their reporters in Russia who will be relaying events from there as they happen.

The presence of private media houses in particular, is highly noted this year. As Cameroon Concord learned from their colleagues of Cameroun Sports, journalists like; David Eyengue Nzima, from Le Jour Newspaper, Jean Jacques Ewong, Raphael Happi, David Eyengue, Sylvain Kwambi, Richard Naha, Frida nolla amongst others all from Cameroon, will be live from Russia.

The competition of 64 matches, is to run from 14 June – 15July 2018 and will be played in 11 cities.

An opening ceremony is scheduled to take place today 14 June as from 3:30 pm, after which the first match of the competition will be played between Russia and Saudi Arabia at 4:00 pm.
