Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

The French league's legal commission has ordered Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay Kylian Mbappé €55 million ($61 million) in unpaid wages, following a dispute between the club and the star player.

The decision was confirmed on Thursday, though further details were not provided by the league. This comes after Mbappé rejected a mediation proposal from the commission the previous day.

The dispute escalated after PSG officials and Mbappé’s representatives met in Paris on Wednesday. Mbappé had sought the commission's intervention to resolve the issue after his summer move to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

Following the meeting, Mbappé’s representatives reiterated that the player is entitled to the unpaid wages. However, PSG has announced its intention to challenge the ruling and pursue further legal action.

“In light of the limitations of the commission’s legal scope, this matter must now be contested in another legal forum. Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to present all the facts over the coming months and year,” the club said in a statement.

PSG claims it does not owe the money, citing an agreement reached when Mbappé was sidelined at the start of the 2023-24 season. The player had allegedly agreed to forego certain bonuses in exchange for his reintegration into the team following his decision not to extend his contract with PSG.

“As a matter of law and fact, the player has made clear, repeated public and private commitments that must be respected, having been afforded unprecedented benefits by the club over seven years in Paris,” PSG added. The club expressed confidence that these commitments would be upheld in court, accusing Mbappé of pursuing a reputationally damaging case.

Mbappé’s relationship with PSG soured during his final season, marked by growing tensions. PSG felt betrayed after offering him the most lucrative contract in the club’s history in 2022, while Mbappé grew frustrated by unmet promises to sign key players. Though he was publicly presented with a 2025 jersey when he renewed his contract, the deal only ran until 2024, with an option for an additional year. This discrepancy reportedly annoyed the player, further straining relations.

The dispute now appears headed for a prolonged legal battle as PSG and Mbappé continue to lock horns over the unpaid wages.
