Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

The highly anticipated draw ceremony for the AFCON Morocco 2025 is set to take place on Monday, January 27, at the Mohammed V National Theatre in Rabat at 7 PM local time. Ahead of the event, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the composition of the pots, fueling excitement among fans.

Cameroon in Pot 2

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon are grouped in Pot 2, alongside Mali, Tunisia, South Africa, DR Congo, and Burkina Faso. This means a first-round clash between Cameroon and Burkina Faso—like the one witnessed during AFCON Gabon 2017—is off the table.

The top FIFA-ranked teams occupy Pot 1, which includes:

  • Senegal
  • Ivory Coast (reigning champions)
  • Morocco (host nation)
  • Egypt
  • Algeria
  • Nigeria

During the draw, the balls from Pot 1 will be picked last, except for Morocco, which has already secured its spot in Group A as the host.

Football Legends to Grace the Ceremony

CAF has invited several African football legends to participate in the draw ceremony and celebrate the event. Among the notable figures are:

  • Patrick Mboma (Cameroon)
  • Gervinho (Ivory Coast)
  • Essam El Hadary (Egypt)
  • Aymen Mathlouthi (Tunisia)
  • Momo Sissoko (Mali)
  • Christopher Katongo (Zambia)

In addition, Rigobert Song, the legendary former captain of the Indomitable Lions, is reported to be among CAF's distinguished guests. He will join Nicolas Anoudji (Team Manager) and Marc Brys (Cameroon's Head Coach), who have been delegated by FECAFOOT to represent the national team at the ceremony. Cameroon is one of the 24 teams that have qualified for the AFCON finals, scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.

Workshop for Coaches

On the eve of the draw, the head coaches of all 24 qualified teams participated in an informational workshop in Rabat, organized by the AFCON committee. The session provided detailed insights into the tournament’s logistics and allowed the coaches to engage directly with the event organizers.

As anticipation builds, fans and football enthusiasts across the continent eagerly await the draw, which will determine the group-stage matchups and set the stage for what promises to be an unforgettable tournament.
