French World Champion Gevrise Emane(Of Cameroonian origin) can’t stop adding prizes. Soon she will be 34 and going for another Olympic medal. At the European Championships in Kazan she defeated the surprising Esther Stam of Georgia in the final. Stam was the sensation though today and secured an Olympic ticket despite her severe neck injury.

Who thought she would be have been in the European final, and who thought that Gevrise Emane would take the European title in a category with the World Ranking leader and triple European champion Kim Polling.  

It was the other “Dutch” woman Stam who was the surprise beating Roxane Taeymans, Laura Vargas Koch and Szabina Gercsak. In the semi final she even surprised Fanny Estelle Posvite. Emane won her four matches against Aleksandra Samardzic, Sally Conway and Kim Polling. The sixth Dan Emane won three World titles and now added her fifth European title, three U70kg and two U63kg.

Hungarian super talent Szabina Gercsak is a trap for everyone was the dark horse for a medal. Although for bronze she had to fight Kim Polling who beat her before, but after 20 seconds she led by yuko and within a minute she destroyed Polling with risk for both, but Gercsak is a master in take over. Polling coujldn’t throw the tall Hungarian and with the opening Polling offered her she hooked in with Ko-soto for a devastating ippon. Everyone should know the World Junior Champion by now, Polling took the risk and lost.

A right ko-soto gave Fanny Estelle Posvite the lead in her match for bronze against Sally Conway. Posvite had lost the semi final against Esther Stam, but in the end won the bronze medal.

Gevrise Emane(age 33) was born in Yaounde-Cameroon,on the 27 July 1982

Athletes from at least 18 institutions are vying for trophies in 11 disciplines including the best fan clubs.

The Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo gave the kicker to the week long sporting jamboree during a solemn ceremony at the football pitch of the University of Yaounde II, Soa. He called for fair play, sportsmanship and camaraderie among the athletes.

The opening ceremony was marked by choreographic displays and a match past by the respective delegations.

Representatives from the different institutions say their athletes are physically and morally prepared for the competition. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea, said her athletes have been in camp preparing to the games.  

Huge crowds of students and sports lovers were present at the games village on the first day of the competition.

Small businesses have also developed around the university campus offering fingerfood , sneaks and other basic services. Some renowned companies also use the games village as an avenue to advertise their products and services

Prime Minister Philemon Yang has ordered TOMBI AROKO SIDIKI,FECAFOOT president  to disburse into the account of the professional football league, the sum of FCFA 410 million, yearly subvention from the federation to the league.

The Fecafoot boss did not convince the PM that four accounts of the federation have been blocked; hence the institution has not been able to get the money to the league. According to the daily French Newspaper Émergence edition of 22 April 2016, Philemon Yang wondered how the federation was functioning with four accounts blocked, yet it cannot respect its engagements with league.

Another source which attended a meeting organized recently with prime minister, Tombi Aroko, Gen. Pirre Semengue and sports minister, Ismaël Pierre Bidoung Mkpatt, said the government reiterated its unflinching support to the General, who was described by the sports boss as a great man who has done wonderful things for the nation and who should not be left at the cross road. The league is expected to also receive the sum of 290 million for the government as part of subvention.  

Tension was recently perceived between the Fecafoot boss and the League, following a suspension of the Leagues present executives and putting in place of a provisional bureau. However Gen. Pierre Semengue won an appeal he deposited at the Chamber of Arbitration and Reconciliation at the National Olympic and Sports Committee, with the court asking the Tombi Bureau to be dissolved.

Cameroonian professional football league has been hit by no or meagre salary to players.The league has also suffered from the rehabilatation works ongoing at the Yaounde stadium as most of the matches are programmed out of the city.The Pro League has also come under the spy glass for not producing the expected spectacle.Gen. Pierre Semengue who has been president for five successive seasons and could stand unopposed in the next elections previewed in the months ahead

In 1994, Roger Milla became the oldest man to have played in the finals of a FIFA World Cup.

He was more than 42 years old, when Cameroon played against Russia in the group stages. He held the record for 20 years, until it was broken during the edition of the ongoing tournament in Brazil.

Columbian goal keeper Faryd Mondragon is now the oldest man to have played a world cup match.  

He was just over 43 years when he came in as an 85th-minute substituted for Columbia against Japan.

However, Milla scored a goal against Russia, setting a record as the oldest goalscorer in a World Cup tournament.
