Cameroon coach Hugo Broos has opted against calling up Schalke defender Joel Matip to the national team after being convinced the player lacks the motivation to give his all for the African nation.
Broos, who took over Cameroon earlier this year, phoned Matip, but was not impressed with the conversation he had with the Liverpool bound defender and feels it is better he stays at home.
As a result, Matip has not been called up for Cameroon's two African Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa at the end of this month.
"I talked to Joel, but I had the feeling that he was not motivated and did not want to come", Broos was quoted as saying by German daily WAZ.
"I want the players to be motivated and have a great desire to be part of the Indomitable Lions. If this is not the case, they are better off staying at home", the Belgian tactician added.
Cameroon will now make do without Matip, who has won 27 caps for the African country since making his senior bow in 2010, when they battle South Africa.
Matip is set to leave Schalke for Liverpool in the summer when his contract with the Ruhr giants expires. The 24-year-old has penned a four-year deal with the Anfield side.

Samuel Eto`o was once again the match winner in the Monday game against Bursaspor . The Cameroonian superstar took his team with two goals on the road to victory . The match ended with a 3:0 victory for Antalyaspor.
The Red & Whites(Antalyapor Trikots) climbed with the victory to the eleventh place in the table and are positioned with 31 points, just one point behind Bursaspor.
Eto´o is currently second top scorer in the Turkish league with 16 goals.

Cameroon’s team at the International cycling tour of Cameroon has finally climbed the podium at the end of the third lap of the race. Clovis Kamzong Abessolo of the SNH velo made the difference overpowering the Moroccans who have been the favourites since the beginning of the race wining the yellow jersey so far and wining the first two laps.
Moroccan cyclist, Saadoune Aadelati won the second lap of 153 kilometres from Pouma in the Littoral region to Kribi in the south region in three hours 42 minutes 35 seconds. Another Moroccan cyclist, Rafai Mohamed Essaid won the first lap and is keeping the yellow jersey.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (Reuters) - Three former South African Football Association (SAFA) officials have been banned in connection with international friendlies played by the national side in 2010, soccer's governing body FIFA said on Monday.
Leslie Sedibe was banned for five years and fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($20,250) by FIFA's Ethics Committee. Steve Goddard and Adeel Carelse, both former heads of the South African Football Assocation's refereeing department, were each banned for two years.
The cases were linked to that of former SAFA executive member and head of referees Lindile Kika, who was banned for six years by FIFA last October.

The opening of the 13th edition of the International Cycling Tour of Cameroon will start at Ayos in the Central Region of the country with 12 cyclists and will be run over a distance of 128 km.
This year’s competition that ends on March 20, will cover over 1021.2 kilometers. It will take place in eight stages; Ayos-Yaoundé, Pouma- Kribi, Kribi Douala, Douala- Douala (criterium in the streets of the city), Douala-Kumba, Mbanga- Bafang, Bafoussam- Dschang- Bafoussam, Bayomen (between Ndikinimeki and Bafia) -Yaoundé.
14 teams comprising a total of 84 riders from Germany, Ivory Coast, Eritrea, France, Gabon, Morocco, Rwanda, Slovakia, Switzerland and Cameroon are taking part.
