Cameroon 2025 – The West blesses Issa Tchiroma Bakary: From the Bishop of Bafoussam to a triumphant people
On his campaign trail in West Cameroon, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, candidate of the National Salvation Front (FSNC), marked a symbolic moment by meeting the Bishop of Bafoussam, Mgr Lontsié-Keune, a church figure widely respected for his outspoken criticism of the Biya regime.
In a pastoral letter dated July 30, 2025, titled “The people murmur… we question ourselves,” the bishop denounced systematic restrictions on freedoms, intimidation, and bans targeting the opposition. He reminded the country that “injustice can never bring peace” and that “the absence of alternance prepares the ground for future conflicts, not for peace.”
The meeting in Bafoussam therefore carried heavy symbolism: the Church, often cautious, has now chosen to echo the people’s call for change.
The royal blessing of Bamendjoun
Earlier in Bangangté, Issa Tchiroma was received by His Majesty Sokoundjou Jean Rameaux, King of the Bamendjoun. The handshake and blessing went far beyond protocol. It symbolized a pact between ancestral memory and contemporary political hope. It placed Issa Tchiroma’s candidacy within the legitimacy of tradition and the spiritual values of the land.
A triumphant people
Crowds across the West turned out in their thousands—waving branches of peace, carrying placards, and singing songs of liberation. The massive turnout showed that the region, long regarded as strategic ground, is opening itself to a new chapter of history with Issa Tchiroma Bakary at the center.
A direct answer to the Biya–Ngoh Ngoh system
While the Biya–Ngoh Ngoh clique deploys fear, manipulation, and repression to cling to power, the images from the West sent an unambiguous message: the will of the people is stronger. The triumphant welcome offered to the FSNC leader stands as a humiliating rebuttal to a regime running out of steam.
The diaspora responds
The BAS France, a leading voice of the diaspora resistance, hailed the West’s massive show of support as a decisive moment in the campaign. In their words: “The people have made their choice, and that choice is Issa Tchiroma Bakary.”
Conclusion
From the bishop’s blessing in Bafoussam to the royal handshake in Bamendjoun and the thunderous welcome in the streets, the West has made its voice clear: the time has come for change. The image of Issa Tchiroma clasping hands with the Bishop of Bafoussam will remain one of the iconic photographs of this election season—evidence that even institutions long silent now move with the tide of history.
