Cameroon Transport Minister Addresses Air France Service Issues and Future Improvements
Yaoundé, June 18, 2024— In response to a letter dated June 10, 2024, from the President of the Cameroon Employers' Association (GECAM), Celestin Kamanou Tawamba, Cameroon's Minister of Transport, Ernest Ngalle Bibehe, has provided clarifications regarding the treatment of Cameroonian passengers by Air France.

Minister Ngalle Bibehe acknowledged that the quality of service offered by Air France has been a significant concern for the ministry, prompted by numerous passenger complaints. These complaints have highlighted issues such as high ticket prices, outdated aircraft, frequent delays, and flight cancellations.
Following a meeting on May 16, 2024, with a delegation from Air France-KLM led by Chairwoman Anne-Marie Couderc, accompanied by Yannick Serou (Chief of Staff), Jean-Marc Pouchol (Director General Africa), and Denis Perrot (Director General for Cameroon), assurances were given to improve the situation.
### Commitments Made by Air France:
1. **Fleet Upgrade:** Air France has committed to deploying a Boeing 787 for the Yaoundé route starting in the winter season of 2025. Additionally, a new aircraft will be introduced for the Yaoundé route while necessary adjustments are being made in Douala.
2. **Pricing Justification:** The high ticket prices were justified by the airline due to tax constraints and rising fuel costs. An ongoing study by the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) aims to develop tools for economic supervision, which will help in assessing the sustainability of travel fares, punctuality reports, and flight schedules provided by airlines.
### Action Plan:
In collaboration with the CCAA, a strategy has been established for the meticulous monitoring of Air France's commitments. Necessary measures will be implemented if the airline fails to adhere to these commitments.
The Ministry of Transport remains vigilant and committed to ensuring that the grievances of Cameroonian passengers are addressed, and that Air France adheres to the agreed-upon improvements to enhance the overall travel experience for Cameroonian passengers.
