Libii Loyalist Attacks Opposition Leaders Ahead of 2025 Poll
DOUALA, Sept 26 – The run-up to Cameroon’s October 12 presidential election has turned more acrimonious after Barrister Tamfu Richard, a human rights lawyer and vocal supporter of Cabral Libii, unleashed a scathing online critique of rival opposition figures.

Tamfu, senior managing partner at a Douala law firm, targeted former Biya regime officials now seeking to present themselves as opposition candidates. He cited former Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma’s past dismissal of the Anglophone crisis, contrasting it with his current political ambitions.
“‘There’s no Anglophone problem Mr Journalist. I am telling you.’ Now it is that I want to solve the Anglophone problem. Who are you deceiving? I’m not a fool. Cabral Libii our only hope for rupture and progress 2025,” Tamfu wrote.
In one of his most polarizing remarks, he brushed aside calls for a spotless candidate, stating: “It is not because we’re desperate for change of regime that we will go and embrace the angels of God. I will prefer to choose the devil Cabral Libii on October 12.”
He dismissed efforts to form a consensual opposition candidate, questioning why ex-government officials should lead that effort. Tamfu also aimed at Maurice Kamto, accusing the MRC leader of “hyper greed” and insisting Libii was the only realistic coalition anchor.
The posts triggered sharp reactions. Libii supporters voiced agreement, while critics hit back. One labeled the lawyer’s strategy “stupid,” another branded Libii a “bandit politique,” while others alleged he was a regime creation meant to fracture dissent.
The heated exchanges underline the deep mistrust dividing Cameroon’s opposition, casting doubt on their ability to form a united challenge to President Paul Biya’s decades-long rule.
