Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Two alleged assassins, Arsène Koungou and Miguel Akoa, find themselves under arrest as the city of Yaoundé grapples with insecurity. The Regional Division of the Central Judicial Police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group, successfully apprehended the suspects, shedding light on a heinous crime that unfolded on the night of November 26 to 27, 2023.

The arrest follows a complaint filed by Thérèse Abomo on November 28, 2023, grieving the murder of her 24-year-old son, Etienne Loïc Mbogsi. The young man fell victim to a brutal attack by unidentified assailants wielding a dagger in the Nkolngongo district around 1 a.m.{loadmoduleid 377}

The breakthrough in the case occurred on December 30, 2023, when law enforcement, guided by consistent and reliable information, apprehended the duo – Arsène Koungou, 18, from "Etam-Bafia," and Miguel Akoa, 17, from "Nkolndongo." According to Deputy Commissioner Julin Zo'ombame, the suspects eventually confessed during their interrogation.

The alleged perpetrators disclosed that, driven by a desperate need for drugs and lacking financial means, they embarked on a nocturnal journey to find potential victims. Etienne Loïc Mbogsi became their unfortunate target, and when met with resistance, Arsène Jordan Koungou struck him with three fatal stabs. The victim succumbed to his injuries a few hours later in a clinic located in the Mimboman district.

In a disturbing twist, the victim's cell phone, a coveted possession during the crime, was sold to 18-year-old Dieudonné Mpito Biende, who was subsequently apprehended on January 4 in the Kondengui neighborhood.

Divisional Commissioner Moïse Emane Emane, head of the regional division of the judicial police in the center, urged caution in the face of such tragedies. He advised against resisting individuals under the influence of narcotics, emphasizing the importance of seeking help from the nearest police unit.

The apprehended suspects will now face judicial authorities in the coming hours, allowing justice to follow its course. As the city grapples with the aftermath of this shocking crime, the arrests provide a glimmer of hope for justice and serve as a stark reminder of the pressing need for vigilance in the face of rising insecurity.{loadmoduleid 378}
