Bamenda-Cameroon:Government expresses satisfaction with measures taken by Orange Network to register subscribers

The Regional Delegate for Post and Telecommunication North West region has expressed satisfaction with the measures taken by Orange Cameroon to identify all subscribers in the network. Apa Edward Kandu shared his observations with media men and women at the end of an inspection visit to the Bamenda Branch Orange Office.

Mobile Telephone Companies in Cameroon have been given until June 30, 2016 to identify all subscribers. After this deadline government says unidentified persons or subscribers will be disconnected and lines suspended. 

Explaining why the decision this Friday June 17, 2016 at the Bamenda Branch office of Orange Cameroon, the Regional Delegate for Post and Telecommunications North West noted that it was in responds to security needs in the country. 

According to Apa Edward the government expects all companies in the sector to accompany government in this process aimed at combating insecurity. 

As to what Orange Cameroon has done, the Bamenda Branch manager explained that several identification points have been created nationwide to meet the target of at least 98percent by the deadline given by the state. Madam Diana Eyong noted that she cannot be talking of 100 per cent keeping in mind that some subscribers may currently be out of the country. 

Accompanied by the representative of the Regional Manager of Orange Cameroon for West and North West, Madam Diana Eyong provided answers to questions from the P&T officials maintaining that apart from just identifying the clients Orange Cameroon makes sure scammers or others who use the network to defraud others are tracked. 

Responding to the Delegate and team on the number of numbers per subscriber, Madam Diana Eyong explained that the system in place will identify using ID card details anyone who wants to register more than three numbers as stipulated by the regulations in force. 

The Delegate after visiting an Orange Cameroon identification point on the commercial avenue express satisfaction with the process expressing optimism the Telecom giant will meet the deadline. 

Before Orange Cameroon, the Delegate visited Nexttel Cameroon and after stopped at the City Chemist office of MTN.
