BIHAPH's Peacebuilding Initiative: Empowering Local Broadcasters for Lasting Change
In a groundbreaking effort to promote peace and combat misinformation in the restive regions of Bamenda I, II, and III, the Bilingual and Humanitarian Association for Peace (BIHAPH) has launched a transformative program. This initiative successfully trained and commissioned 30 local broadcasters, representing diverse media organizations, in a bid to empower them with essential skills.
Collaborative Effort with CFLI
The capacity-building initiative, orchestrated in Bamenda, is a collaborative venture between BIHAPH and the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI). These workshops were meticulously designed to provide local broadcasters with the tools needed to contribute to peacebuilding, reduce violence, and alleviate human suffering in regions facing significant challenges.

Participants conveyed profound appreciation for what they deemed a timely intervention, acknowledging its potential to enhance their effectiveness in peacebuilding endeavors. The training, focused on the Bottom-Top Approach and Peace Journalism, emphasized the importance of empowering local voices to shape narratives that foster peace and understanding.
Certificates of Participation: Symbols of Peace Ambassadors
In recognition of their commitment and newfound skills, participants were honored with certificates of participation. These certificates symbolize their role as BIHAPH/CFLI ambassadors of peace through their local language broadcasts. This acknowledgment reinforces their dedication to promoting peace, understanding, and reconciliation within their communities.
Global Support and Recognition
The initiative has garnered support and recognition from esteemed entities such as the High Commission of Canada to Cameroon, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), UNICEF Cameroon, and the US Embassy in Yaoundé. The collaboration with these international bodies underscores a global commitment to fostering peace and stability in regions grappling with unrest.
A Path to a Peaceful Future
Armed with these newly acquired skills and fortified by international partnerships, the 30 national language broadcasters are poised to play a crucial role in building bridges of understanding and promoting peace in their communities. As ambassadors of peace, they bear the responsibility of countering misinformation and cultivating a culture of unity and reconciliation.
The BIHAPH/CFLI initiative emerges as a beacon of hope, pointing towards a peaceful and harmonious future for the restive regions of Bamenda. The anticipated ripple effects of this training are poised to significantly contribute to the ongoing efforts to establish lasting peace and stability in the affected areas.{loadmoduleid 378}
