Cameroon: Marking of Fake GCE kicks off

Thursday 13 July 2017 is the day set aside for the kickoff of the marking of GCE scripts for the 2016/2017 shaky academic year.

After two preparatory meetings chaired by the Registrar of the GCE board Humphrey Ekema Monono, the correction of scripts for the GCE Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates will start today with over 6000 examiners expected to take part in the two centres Limbe and Buea.

The marking centres are just two due to the annulment of the Bamenda centre, for security reasons. After experiencing burning of infrastructure and battering of individuals going contrary to the trend of events in the Anglophone part of the country especially the Northwest Region, the GCE Board deemed it necessary to limit the marking only to the South West Region where tensions are lighter.

The marking session will be done by two teams; those at the secretariat and the examiners who are expected to correct 175 scripts for the Ordinary level and 160 for the Advanced level each.

It will last for a period of three weeks. During this time, the papers will be marked, and the results compiled for subsequent release.

The number of scripts have dropped, especially for the Advanced Level, due to the timid participation of students in this year’s examination session. The examiners are not happy with this because they will earn less as the marking period has equally been slashed down from 10 to 8 days.
