A team from the National Brigade of Repression and Fraud at the Ministry of Commerce (MINCOMMERCE) has impounded a tonne of frozen chicken. The consignment was seized on Saturday the 7th of November 2015 at Essazok, situated at the outskirts of Yaounde. The stock considered illegal, was discovered properly concealed amongst luggage in a public transport vehicle. 

The head of the repression team, Martin Charles Abessolo Monefong explained that the discovery was made after a tip-off. Surveillance was intensified after information got to competent authorities that huge quantities of frozen chicken had illegally entered Cameroon from neighbouring countries. The Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries and the team from MINCOMMERCE carried out a joint operation that track down the criminals.

The Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana personally travelled to Essazok on Sunday the 8th of November 2015 to ensure the complete destruction of the banned foodstuff. Minister Magloire Mbarga cautioned the public on the dangers of consuming chicken of doubtful quality. He also revealed that the illegal importation of frozen chicken constitutes health risks for consumers.
