The presidency of the republic has reported that Mrs. Chantal BIYA, wife of the President of the Republic received New Year wishes from the wives of Diplomats posted to Yaounde and various national groupings of women on Friday 9 January 2015 at Unity Palace.

The wives of Diplomats accredited to Yaounde arrived Unity Palace this morning and took up position for one of the most thrilling social events in the country: the presentation of New Year wishes to the First Lady of Cameroon, Mrs. Chantal BIYA. The joy was immense and it was total communion as the First Lady shook hands with them in turns and then had a family picture with them. She also handed over a nice packet of souvenirs to each of the ladies. Then came the turn of national personalities. Mrs. Marcie NIAT, wife of the President of the Senate led the first group comprising the wives of Senators. They were followed by wives of the members of the National Assembly, led by Mrs. CAVAYE FADIMATOU; the wives of Members of Government led by Madam ALI Agnes Francoise, wife of the Vice-Prime Minister; and many other groups. In all, a total number of 25 groups of women greeted Madam Chantal BIYA and wished her a happy new year. Merry making and dancing led by some popular musicians was the order of the day. By late afternoon, the doors of Unity Palace closed on one of the most keenly awaited social events that will keep the women happy for the whole year.
