Cameroon: Six Catholic Christians die in road accident in Littoral Region
Six Catholic Christians have died in a car accident in the Moungo division of the Littoral Region. Two others are seriously injured and are receiving medical attention at the Laquintinie Hospital in the economic capital of the country, Douala.
The victims include three women and three men, who are members of a parish in Buea. Local media reports say they were returning from a funeral ceremony in Dschang(in the West Region) when the driver lost control of the vehicle on Monday.
This incident is the latest in a wave of deadly car accidents in Cameroon. Seven other persons lost their lives at the weekend, in two separate incidents. The first case involved a young lawyer who was the only victim in the tragedy, meanwhile two other persons were seriously injured. The second accident claimed the lives of six persons, who have been taken to the mortuary pending identification.
An investigation is underway.
Road accidents are common place in Cameroon. Sometimes they are caused by high speed; uncalculated overtaking; and bad roads, full of potholes.
Cameroon is currently bathed in a sensitization campaign on how to use roads in order to reduce accidents.
Most people in Cameroon drive without passing through a driving school.
