Cameroon Minister of Finance Alamine Ousmane Mey is reported to have embezzled 1.738 billion Fcfa during his time as chief executive officer of Afriland First Bank. Financial crime experts have hinted that the case revolves around the funding of forest and wildlife community projects. Cameroon Concord learnt that the government of President Biya opened an account with Afriland First Bank and deposited the sum of three billion Fcfa authorizing the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, the Ministry of Finance and CAMDEV Society to manage the Regic Project.

Alamine Ousmane Mey as managing director of the bank debited the account to the tune of 1.738 billion Fcfa and claimed the government had demanded Afriland Bank to cover part of its commitment to CAMDEV. Information has now filtered to the public that the 1.738 billion Fcfa was transferred within a three year period back to Afriland Bank and channelled to CAMTEL markets. A French speaking Cameroonian journalist, who spoke to Cameroon Concord yesterday said signatures of prominent government officials were falsified during the process including that of Prof. Elvis Ngolle Ngolle former Minister of the Environment and Forest.
