Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Residents of Old Town, Bamenda II Subdivision, are expressing their gratitude to the police for their continuous crackdown on drug dealers. STAR TV Bamenda conducted interviews with some of the detainees, shedding light on the situation.

One of the arrested drug consumers, Oumarou Bakari, blamed the security forces in Bamenda for allowing the drug trade to thrive, stating, "Every time we see them, they come, collect money, and go. So when we saw them today, we knew it was for their regular collections. We were taken aback that we were arrested."

When asked what should be done to stop them from consuming drugs, Bakari said, "Once you're in it, it is very difficult to come out. We will only depend on Allah for rescue."

Bakari further suggested that the security forces should arrest all the main drug dealers to curb the drug trade effectively.

Rampant theft, prostitution, and general frustration among the youth have become prevalent issues in the area. To address this, the Central Police in Bamenda launched a series of raids to eradicate drug trafficking from the community.

Police Commissioner Emmanuel Mbock revealed that the special operation was ordered by the Regional Delegate of National Security for the North West, Police Commissioner Elung Wilson Njume.

The operation, which commenced on April 21, 2024, continued on Sunday, April 28, focusing on the outback area in Ntambag quarters, Old Town.

During the raid, a total of 26 individuals were arrested, and a significant quantity of tramadol, cocaine, Kayou, and other types of drugs were seized. Additionally, a total of 1.9 million francs CFA was confiscated from the dealers.

Commissioner Mbock emphasized, "The holiday period is over for those who sell drugs in Old Town. They either stop, or they should leave Bamenda. The dangers of these drugs in society put the future of our youth in jeopardy. We cannot continue like this."

The crackdown on drug trafficking is a crucial step in restoring peace and security to the community, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
