Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

In response to growing concerns over unpaid royalties, a group of artists, led by Ateh Bazore, President of the National Collective Management Organization for Rights (SONACAM), staged a demonstration at the Ministry of Communication.

The artists were demanding payment for royalties owed by the Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) for the years 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Minister of Communication and CRTV Board Chairman René Sadi, alongside CRTV's Director General, promptly met with the artists' representatives in a meeting that lasted over four hours. The discussions were described as open and honest, allowing the Minister to hear the artists' grievances and provide updates on the measures taken to resolve the issue.

Minister Sadi informed the artists that negotiations between all involved parties are ongoing and making significant progress. He assured them that CRTV is fully committed to settling the debt as soon as the discussions conclude. A final meeting between all stakeholders has been scheduled for September 3, 2024, to finalize the conditions for payment.

In his statement, Minister Sadi urged the artists to trust in the Republic's institutions and remain patient and responsible as the process reaches its conclusion. The Ministry emphasized that efforts are being made to ensure that the artists' rights are respected and that the payments are processed promptly once the negotiations are completed.

The situation underscores the importance of collective management organizations and the challenges they face in securing payments for their members from public institutions like CRTV. The upcoming meeting in September is expected to be a crucial step towards resolving this long-standing issue.
