Doaula: First and second wife beat husband for planning to bring in a third wife

The first and second wife of a Douala man over the weekend had their husband well beaten for planning to marry another wife.

The incident took place at the Logpom neighbourhood in Douala when news leaked that the man in his early 70s was making arrangements to tie the knot to another lady.

Reports say the old man was beaten to near death by his older wives who were against the idea.

According to the older wife, the man had just sold a piece of the family land and instead of using the money judiciously among his wives and children, decided to bring in a new woman.

“I have been suffering with this man for the past 39 years and now that little money has entered his pockets, he wants to marry a new wife. I cannot accept that. We have to share the money into three equal parts, for him, me and my co-wife” says the first wife. “If he wants he should take his own part and marry as many wives as he wants, I don’t care” she adds.

Eye witnesses say the polygamous husband during the argument that later escalated to a full blown battle, had earlier accused his two wives of being witches before they decided to beat him to pulp.

Nevertheless the father of 13 children has remained determined to go ahead with his plans despite all odds. He says he must die a happy man.
