In a case dating back to August, a gendarme, previously disciplined and stationed in Kousseri due to previous accusations of misconduct, has been linked to a high-profile kidnapping in Douala. The officer in question, Abdellah Amadou, allegedly abducted a citizen and demanded a hefty ransom of 3,000,000 FCFA for his release.
According to sources, Abdellah, who had been posted to Kousseri for disciplinary reasons following public denunciations of his behavior, returned to Douala to engage in further illegal activities. In mid-August, he targeted a resident, Inoussa Soulé, by forcefully entering his home in the New-Bell neighborhood around 10 a.m. without a warrant. Accusing Soulé of being involved in drug trafficking, Abdellah conducted an aggressive search but reportedly found no incriminating evidence. Nevertheless, he detained Soulé, taking him to an undisclosed location.
After the abduction, Abdellah allegedly compelled Soulé to call his mother and demand the ransom for his freedom. Since then, the family has been searching for Soulé, visiting various gendarmerie units across Douala, but their efforts have been in vain.
Yesterday, Abdellah, along with a colleague, Macho Messaac Simo—both of whom had fled to Turkey following the incident—were extradited back to Cameroon. They arrived in Yaoundé on a Turkish Airlines flight and are currently detained by the Military Security Service (SEMIL). The victim's family has filed an official complaint, citing charges of kidnapping, illegal detention, and extortion.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to determine the full extent of Abdellah’s criminal activities, both within and outside of Cameroon.
