Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Following two landslides at 10:40 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. that disrupted traffic along the Dschang-Santchou route, Awa Fonka Augustine, Governor of Cameroon’s West region, announced the following safety measures:

  1. All vehicle traffic is strictly prohibited on the Santchou-Dschang road.
  2. Travelers bound for Dschang, Mbouda, or Bamenda, or heading to the Littoral region, are advised to use the Melong-Kekem-Bafang-Bafoussam route.
  3. Aside from authorized rescue teams, people are advised to avoid the affected area entirely.

In the preliminary report, the governor confirmed that the second landslide resulted in four fatalities. The collapse buried pedestrians, nearby residents, three transport minibuses, five vehicles, multiple motorcycles, and three heavy machines that were clearing the initial landslide.

“Rescue operations are ongoing to recover the bodies of other potential victims,” said Governor Augustine Awa Fonka.

The Dschang cliffside has long been recognized as a high-risk zone, with numerous past traffic accidents. This recent landslide, however, is one of the first to result in such severe casualties and damage.
