Guneku village is abuzz with excitement as preparations for the second edition of the Michi Ebeng Festival reach a crescendo.

With eleven Kwem Dance Groups already securing their spots in the competition, the stage is set for a vibrant showcase of talent and tradition. Among the participating groups are Guneku, Tondig, Wumnembug, Njaah, Njah-Etu, Tonechup, Tuochup, Ngwokwong, Ku, Mile 18, and Acha Tugi, each eager to leave their mark on the festival.

A recent preparatory meeting, attended by the organizing committee and representatives from the participating dance groups, saw unexpected guests adding to the excitement. Prince Tibah and his mother, the queen, made a surprise visit from Germany to show their support for the festival and engage with the villagers. Their presence served as a source of encouragement for the dance groups, who have been tirelessly working to preserve Guneku's cultural heritage.

During the meeting, crucial decisions were made to ensure the fair and smooth conduct of the competition. It was unanimously agreed that mystical powers would not be permitted during the dancing, and each group must adhere to specific guidelines regarding performance parameters. These guidelines include the number of performers, duration of the performance, and inclusion of women and youths. Additionally, participants are prohibited from performing in more than one group, and borrowing instruments from other groups is strictly prohibited.

The sense of unity among the Kwem dance members was palpable as they pledged to support each other and uphold the traditions of Meta. They shared ideas and experiences, emphasizing the importance of communal support and individual responsibility within their groups. The meeting concluded with festivities, symbolizing the camaraderie and excitement surrounding the upcoming festival.

As the event draws near, the organizing committee will visit each registered dance group to assess their readiness. With hundreds of attendees expected to flock to Guneku village for the festival, Michi Ebeng promises to be a vibrant celebration of Meta's rich cultural heritage. Embracing traditional dress, language, and cuisine will be essential for attendees, ensuring an authentic and immersive experience for all. Since its inception in 2023, Michi Ebeng has become a highlight of Momo Division's cultural calendar, fostering unity and pride among its communities.
