Cameroon: Two Canal 2 journalists targeted by Biya regime
Jean Bruno Tagne and Rodrigue Tongue Ndeutch are in the claws of the Biya administration.
The programmes, La Grande interview and L'Arene, which they host have been targeted by the regime .
The CEO of the media corporation Emmanuel Chatue was instructed by the powers that be to censure both programmes because some participants had criticized the Biya government.
To ease the pressure from above, Emmanuel Chatue had decided to edit the programmes and remove the unwanted parts to please the regime.
But then Bouba Ngomona and Carole Yemekong said it was contrary to the deontology of journalism.
Actually the order from above was calling for the sacking of the two journalists, which Emmanuel Chatue refused to follow.
Both men are believed to be agents of the opposition...
In fact, since the death of Biya's mother-in-law, Canal 2 has lost much influence on the side of the president. Vision4 has taken the upper hand.
That's why some of Emmanuel Chatue's allies believe that it was a move meant to fire the journalist and have them recruited by Vision4.
Vision4 is used to recruiting journalists fired by Canal 2.
That's the case of Albert Mbida who is working with Vision 4 after leaving Canal 2.
Before joining Belinga Amougou's Vision4, Albert Mbida was a close ally of Emmanuel Chatue, reportedly earning about FCFA 500,000 and tipped to become general manager, before the negotiations failed.
Mbida's frustration was amplified by his not being appointed as general manager of state broadcaster Crtv in spite of his claim of being of the same family as Martin Belinga Eboutou, director of civil cabinet at the presidency.
Mr Eboutou had reportedly denied him the job on the ground that he[Mbida] "is not like them".
Communications minister Issa Tchiroma has also added salt to Mbida's wound by preferring Felix Zogo and relegating Mbida to the back bench in his ministerial department.
And the frustrated Mbida has been going round telling young girls he is dating that Zogo is Tchiroma's sexual partner.
Albert Mbida is now the right hand man of Belinga Amougou.
