Cameroon-Yaounde: 12 shops consumed by fire at Avenue Kenedy
Twelve shops have been ravaged by flames at the Avenue Kenedy commercial street in Yaounde. This occurred on Thursday afternoon and the cause is suspected to have been electrical.
According to the head of the fire fighters who went to the scene to quench the fire, it took them three hours to put out the fire. He further revealed that, if intervention was not immediate, the flames could have consumed the whole Avenue Kenedy.
At the time radio Balafon was interviewing the leader of the fire fighters, he said they had come to the end of their mission there and would soon leave. The reasons which he gave for this was that, some inhabitants of that locality had already started stealing the few things that were left, and the fire fighters did not wish to be accused for any missing items.
The loss caused by the fire incident is estimated at 200 million FCFA.
