For his 91st birthday party, the patriarch of the African Union Robert Mugabe has planned to offer the flesh of an elephant, buffalo and a lion to his 20,000 guests scheduled for February 21. For Tendai Musasa,a local farmer who has opted to provide some of the animals including two elephants, two buffaloes and a lion, that gesture "is a way to support President Mugabe while providing a festive atmosphere."

Cat calls from wild life groups in Zimbabwe have greeted the news with the President of the Working Group for the Conservation of Zimbabwe lamenting the killing of many elephants and buffaloes during such celebrations saying “It's totally unethical and it should not be allowed”. During his 90th birthday celebrations, 90 balloons were launched and 90 cows offered for a meal accompanied by a gigantic cake that weighed 90 pounds. Robert Mugabe who has governed Zimbabwe since 1980 is the current Chairman of the African Union.
