WHO revokes Mugabe’s role as goodwill ambassador
The Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, is no longer a goodwill Ambassador; a role which the World Health Organisation gave him hoping he would use it to influence other leaders in Africa, to take the healthcare of their Nations serious.
WHO decided to take the responsibility of goodwill ambassador from Mugabe, after an outcry from many people as well as organizations. They said, the health sector of Zimbabwe has become worse over the 30 years Mugabe has ruled the country.
He is even accused of going to Europe on several occasions for treatment, which is attributed to the poor state of health facilities in Zimbabwe.
Robert Mugabe’s appointment in the first place was met with mixed feelings by the UK government, the Canadian Prime Minister, the Welcome Trust, the NCD Alliance, UN Watch, the World Heart Federation, Action Against Smoking, Zimbabwean lawyers and many social media users.
