Justice Served-Kribi: Sub-Prefect Sentenced for Murder
Ebolowa, March 6, 2024 — After a protracted legal battle spanning four years, justice has finally been served in the tragic case of Lydienne Solange Taba.
The young woman’s life was abruptly cut short on a fateful night in July 2020, and her accused killer, Franck Derlin Eyono Ebanga, has now been sentenced to ten years in prison by the military court of Ebolowa.
The Tragedy Unfolds Lydienne Solange Taba, a promising 23-year-old university student, met her untimely demise at the hands of her romantic partner, Frank Derlin Eyono Ebanga. The incident occurred in Kribi, the capital city of the Ocean department, where Eyono Ebanga served as the disgraced former government administrator of the Lokoundje district.
On the night of July 24 to 25, 2020, tragedy struck. Eyono Ebanga allegedly shot and killed his young partner, leaving her lifeless in their shared home. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain hauntingly vivid: a life extinguished, dreams shattered, and a community left in shock.
A Lengthy Legal Battle For four years, the case wound its way through the judicial system, capturing public attention and raising questions about the impartiality of justice. Eyono Ebanga’s connections, rumored to extend to the highest echelons of power, fueled concerns that the trial might be compromised. However, the recent verdict has dispelled those doubts.
The Verdict In a landmark ruling, the Ebolowa Military Court found Eyono Ebanga guilty of culpable homicide. The court emphasized the use of a firearm in the fatal act, underscoring the severity of the crime. Despite the accused’s apologies to the victim’s family, justice prevailed, and the court upheld his conviction.
The sentence—a decade behind bars—sends a clear message: no one is above the law. Alongside the prison term, Eyono Ebanga has been ordered to pay 45 million FCFA in damages to Lydienne’s grieving family.
Remembering Lydienne Solange Taba Lydienne’s name will forever be etched in the annals of tragedy. She was a bright student, a daughter, and a friend—a young woman with dreams and aspirations. Her life was snatched away in the prime of her existence, leaving a void that can never be filled.
As we reflect on this heartbreaking chapter, let us honor Lydienne’s memory and advocate for justice. May her story serve as a reminder that every life matters, and no one should suffer violence at the hands of those they trust.
