Mbengwi Businessman Killed, Wife Beaten in Violent Robbery
Mbengwi, Cameroon — Joe Conerben, a well-known businessman in Mbengwi, was fatally shot in his native village of Njinibi, located in the Mbengwi Central Subdivision. The attack occurred around 3 a.m. on the night of Tuesday, July 30th.
Gunmen stormed Conerben’s residence, demanding money. When he could not comply, they shot him in the chest and severely beat his wife.
### Brutal Attack
The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, targeted Conerben’s home, demanding a substantial amount of money. Upon his inability to produce the cash, they opened fire on him and assaulted his wife. Conerben was rushed to Bamenda Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
### Community Impact
The violence did not end with Conerben's home. The gunmen reportedly attacked other nearby villages, spreading fear and uncertainty throughout the region. Conerben, widely recognized in the community, owned a prominent story building in Mbengwi and was a retired contractor known for managing numerous projects within the subdivision.
### A Life Cut Short
Conerben had been enjoying his retirement in Njinibi before this tragic incident. His contributions to the local infrastructure and economy made him a respected figure in Mbengwi. The violent nature of his death has shocked the community, leaving many to mourn the loss of a man who had given much to his hometown.
### Authorities on Alert
Local authorities are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made. The attack highlights ongoing security concerns in the region, with residents calling for increased protection and swift justice for the perpetrators.
