Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, a Nigerian man wanted for the murder of his three-month-old son in Rhode Island, has been added to the U.S. Marshals Service’s "15 Most Wanted" list. Authorities are offering a reward of up to $25,000 (approximately 15 million CFA) for any information that leads to his capture.

Olawusi, 48, faces charges of first-degree murder and inflicting serious bodily injury to a child. Despite being arrested and arraigned on April 20, 2017, he was released on the same day and has since evaded authorities, leading to his fugitive status.

The crime occurred on April 3, 2017, when police and emergency responders found Olawusi’s son suffering from severe injuries, including a skull fracture and brain trauma. The child, who had injuries to 18 parts of his body, was rushed to the hospital but later died from his wounds.

Initially charged with child abuse, Olawusi fled the United States before the charges were upgraded to murder. The U.S. Marshals believe he may be hiding in Nigeria, possibly with the help of family members, and are urging the public to report any sightings.

Ronald Davis, Director of the U.S. Marshals, emphasized the urgency of his capture, calling Olawusi a serious threat to public safety. "We will exhaust all resources necessary to bring him to justice," Davis said.

The "15 Most Wanted" list, which was established in 1983, highlights fugitives who pose significant threats to public safety. Since its creation, it has led to the capture of over 250 individuals. Olawusi’s case is considered a priority, with authorities hoping the substantial reward of 15 million CFA will encourage the public to come forward with crucial information.
