Police recruitment in Cameroon in fiasco as many candidates are caught with fake university degrees and diplomas
Fake degrees and certificates of achievement are in circulation in Cameroon ever since the launch of a police recruitment scheme. Cameroon National Police launched in December 2014, a program to recruit 9,400 young Cameroonians over a two year period at the rate of 4,700 per year. According to the Police force, the purpose is to fill the gap brought about by numerous deaths and retirement. The folder filing deadline is February 6, 2015.
The whole process has been shambolic and marred by the presentation of fake university degrees, diplomas and above all, fakes fiscal stamps. Our correspondent in Yaounde hinted at the time of writing this report that police have uncovered a bureau in Bonamoussadi near the university campus that produces fake diplomas.
It is a common practice in Cameroon that whenever a competitive examination is announced candidates buy diplomas at high prices. The practice has been for ages despite police hauls with some persons using certificates of their dead ones and even family members residing in the Diaspora to get jobs.
