Unveiling Tomorrow's Cameroon Through Today's News

Breaking

The tragic killing of renowned veterinarian Dr. Aku Joseph Gwe, who also served as the National President of the Kejom Keku Cultural and Development Association "KEKCUDA," has left the community reeling with uncertainty as to the identity of the perpetrators.

Dr. Gwe was abducted from his residence in the Bamenda III subdivision on May 22nd, 2024, at approximately 7 pm by unidentified gunmen. His lifeless body was later discovered in the outskirts of Bambui in the Tubah Subdivision of the Mezam Division in the North West Region of Cameroon on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

Dr. Gwe, of Big Babanki (Kejom Keku) descent, was deeply respected within his community and beyond for his contributions as a veterinarian and cultural leader. His untimely demise has plunged his loved ones and the community into grief and shock. His remains have been entrusted to the St Blaise mortuary in Bamenda.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for his killing, adding to the anguish and confusion surrounding the incident. This tragic event comes on the heels of another senseless act of violence in the region, where Monji Bernis, a mother of three and a seamstress at the Bamenda main market, was fatally shot on April 28th by unknown assailants. Like Dr. Gwe's case, no group has claimed responsibility for Monji Bernis's killing.

The region remains fraught with volatility, with some individuals exploiting the cover of the ongoing Ambazonian crisis to settle personal vendettas, perpetrate unjustifiable killings, and carry out kidnappings. Eyewitnesses have attested to the tense and precarious situation, underscoring the urgent need for stability and security measures to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.
